Summer Debauchery
This is One Warped Tour
By Nicole Letaw
If you can strip to the skin and endure the rays, the Vans Warped Tour at West Palm Beach’s Cruzan Amphitheatre on July 25 offers more bands that you can count on your extremities, a plethora of non-profit organizations, tattoos, bikinis and beer to add to an already sizzling summer day.
Originally the Vans Warped Tour was pegged as a punk rock/skater phenomenon, but 15 years later, the tour has added still more genres of music and continues to grow bigger and better each year.
Of the 60-plus bands playing this year, don’t miss veteran rockers like Bad Religion, Bouncing Souls, Less than JakeandUnderoath as well as an array of up-and-comers. There are even a few South Florida locals such as The Mission Veo and I Set My Friends on Fire.
Bad Religion, no stranger to the Vans Warped Tour, is often credited for leading the renewal of punk rock music and inspiring a large number of other punk and rock musicians throughout their 29-year career. Through numerous lineup changes, the band has continued to rock on – a feat few true punk rockers can lay claim to.
Bouncing Souls,or what some may call another brand of Jersey Boys borrowed their name from the infamous and popular punk rock staple Doc Marten’s boots’ moniker for their air-cushioned soles. Although you might find it a little too hot to rock boots at this summer’s Warped Tour, diehard punk rockers will probably still show up kicking their Docs through the mud.
Florida favorite Less than Jake got their start right here in our own beloved swamplands. The ska/punk band has been gracing the south Florida music scene for decades and has always been a treat to repeat Tour-goers.
And Tampa’s Grammy-nominated Underoathassume a whole new dimension of metalcore music as the Christian rock band take the stage among many other fantastic acts. So grab your swimsuits, sun block, and flip-flops and enjoy a day in the sun with some of the best live punk and rock performances this summer.
The Vans Warped Tour starts bright and early at noon at the West Palm Beach’s Cruzan Amphitheatre, 601 Sansbury's Way, West Palm Beach. Tickets are $25.93 in a advance or $32.00 at the gates. For a complete list of the bands performing, visit warpedtour.com.
