Lewd, Crude and Perverted
RevCo is Back: Hide
Your...Well, Just Hide
By Dominick Scala
Way back in 1983, Al Jourgensen (Ministry), Richard 23 (Front 242), and Luc Van Acker were celebrating the formation of their new band with many cocktails at a bar in Chicago. The evening ended in a brawl with stools flying through windows and the bar owner throwing the trio out while screaming “you guys are a bunch of Revolting Cocks!” Alas, The Revolting Cocks were born.
The band quickly became known for perverse lyrics and lascivious live shows. Richard ended up leaving the band early because of ‘creative differences.’ Since then, the Revolting Cocks have become a revolving door of musicians. Over the years the band has been graced by artists such as Chris Connelly, Bill Rieflin (of R.E.M.), Paul Barker, Timothy Leary, Trent Reznor, Jello Biafra, Jeff Ward, and the list goes on. From 1985 to 1993, the Revolting Cocks released four studio albums, most notably “Beers, Steers, and Queers.” The music was heavily-layered industrial (think metallic guitars with computer generated samples, shouting and, well, straight up noise.) At the time, Jourgensen told the media the band went into the studio hammered, employing an advanced technique of twisting knobs in the hopes of blowing up the equipment to see if it sounds cool.
The only thing that actually exploded, however, was the band’s momentum.
The title track to “Beers” made its way into the darkest of clubs. To this day you can still stomp to that track, though it will likely be at a club that’s still holding onto some lingering Gen-X leftovers.
After a 10-year hiatus, Jourgensen and a slew of RevCo regulars regrouped and started recording again in hopes of attracting a new generation of fans. By 2006 he released “Cocked and Loaded,” and began to assemble a band for a tour titled “MasterBaTour.”
Straight outta the island of misfit sex toys, vocalist Josh Bradford found his way to Al’s place in El Paso hoping to get his band Stayte signed. Bradford ended up recruited as RevCo’s new frontman. Stayte was also signed to Al’s label: 13th Planet Records.
Luckily for RevCo fans, Bradford fits the bill flawlessly. He is charismatic, he can sing, and his Texas-sized libido rivals his level of insanity.
At their show in San Francisco Sept. 23ß, with Jim Rose as ring master, Bradford with opener Blown Load spent much of his time on stage with a mic in one hand and the other between his legs. When he wasn’t dry humping mic stands, he spent some time snatching cell phones from fans and calling their friends to have the entire audience scream in unison a glorious “Fuck You!” for not attending his circus sex show.
Blown Load is on tour supporting the latest RevCo release “Sex-O Olympic-O.” There is also a remix album out called “Sex-O MiXXX-O” that features remixes by Chris Vrenna, Pop Will Eat Itself, Dave “Rave” Ogilvie, and Doug Firley of Gravity Kills, to name a few. “MiXXX” is a fantastic and sexy dance record that will surely make its way to clubs across the country. Jourgensen has also recently finished the follow up to “Sex-O” called “Got Cock?” Bradford told The Lead the songs are already recorded, and the cover art will be something akin to the “Got milk?” ad campaign, except it wont be milk on her lip. But who knows when the hell that will be out.
The hot mess of sex and sideshow antics called the “LubricaTour” will spew into South Florida on Oct. 22 at Revolution Live, 200 West Broward Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, at 8 p.m.
Tickets are $16 to $49. For more information, call 954-727-0950 or visit jointherevolution.net.
