MBC January Exhibition
"Steamy Tennessee" in posters and graphics
Tennessee Williams is the artist of the month at MBC. A true "auteur" when it comes to the control of his work, MBC presents a month of the film adaptations of the work of this great American playwright. Supplementing these provocative classics are posters and graphics from the MBC Archive, and from the private collection of MBC member and supporter Kendall S. Natvig. The MBC January retrospective culminates in a two night special event: a play reading directed by David Tawil of “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” on Feb. 2 and 3. Don't miss the steamiest films from a major American author to hit movie screens throughout the 1950s and 1960s, the exhibition to match, and the play reading. This retrospective is also part of MBC's collaboration with W South Beach, "Classic, Smooth, & Sultry" a once-a-month MBC Dive-In series at the W. The first of four once-a-month nights is Monday, Jan. 25, with “The Night of the Iguana.”

Raquel, a bitter and introverted woman, has been the Valdés family's maid for 23 years. Things change when Pilar, her mistress, hires another maid to help Raquel with her chores. Shot in Key West but based in the Mississippi Gulf, this is one of Tennessee Williams' lustiest tales of love, loss, betrayal, and jealousy. Anna Magnani, in her first English role, plays the emotional, insecure, domineering widow Serafina Delle Rose, whose life of drama draws her daughter, in the midst of budding sexuality, into the web. Burt Lancaster plays Alvaro Mangiacavallo, the second bus driver who enters their lives.
